Job Summary
The Construction Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for asphalt paving and construction projects by analyzing drawings, specifications, proposals, and related documents. Have strong attention to detail, construction field experience, and the ability to work closely with project managers and vendors.
Key Responsibilities
  • Review project plans, specifications, and bid documents to determine scope and requirements
  • Conduct site visits as needed to evaluate conditions and gather data
  • Calculate labor, material, and equipment costs for asphalt paving and construction jobs
  • Track pricing trends, vendor rates, and subcontractor quotes
  • Prepare clear and detailed proposals and cost reports for management review
  • Collaborate with sales, operations, and project management teams
  • Analyze differences between estimated and actual costs to improve future accuracy
  • Maintain relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, and clients
  • Review bid invitations for scope of work
Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a construction estimator (asphalt or heavy civil preferred)
  • Strong math and analytical skills
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specs, and technical documents
  • Familiarity with estimating software packages
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Field experience in asphalt or civil construction is a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general computer applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
